Survey: Romania 9th in the European Union (EU) on accessing online social media
Almost three quarters (74 percent) of Romanian internet users aged between 16 and 74 interact via social media, placing Romania 9th in the European Union (EU) on this segment, reveal the findings of a special survey released on Wednesday.
The percentage of those accessing social media exceeds the European average of 63 percent.
According to the Perceptum survey, chatting via applications like Whatsapp Voice Call and video chatting are other favorite online activities of Romanians.
At the opposite end, Romanians' least used online services are banking and research.
Generally speaking, the survey shows that only eight in 100 Romanians use Internet Banking, compared with a European average of nearly 60 percent. Other less frequently used online services include file sharing and e-mailing, online research (other than news reading), and tourist bookings.
According to the findings, almost half of Romanian internet users listen to online music, similarly to other Europeans, while six in ten Romanians read online news. In addition, fewer than one company in ten (8 percent) is highly digitised in Romania.
As many as 65 percent of the Romanian companies are poorly digitised, meaning, as a rule, an extremely simple website and a few computers. Similarly, only 43 percent of the domestic companies are equipping their employees with mobile internet devices (laptops, netbooks, tablets, smartphones and smartwatches), according to the Perceptum survey.
