Swedish companies are interesting by Constanta-Istanbul submarine power cable
Secretary of State for European Affairs with the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu on Friday, in Bucharest, had consultations with his Swedish counterpart Frank Belfrage, an occasion on which they discussed both items on the European agenda and the project of the submarine power cable connecting Constanta (south-eastern Romania) to Istanbul.
'We have also talked about an important bilateral project we are in favour of: the Constanta-Istanbul submarine power cable. The governments of both countries attach much importance to the finalization of this project,' Aurescu said at the end of his consultations with the Swedish official.
During the Bucharest meeting they approached such subjects as the cooperation in the energy field, especially as regards the support to modernizing the energy field in Romania.
'We currently have a very active bilateral cooperation, I should say there are no bilateral problems between us. To Romania Sweden is a privileged partner in the EU,' said Aurescu.
In June 2010 Transelectrica and the Swedish company Vattenfall Power Consultant AB signed the service contract on the feasibility study, the environment study and the task books included, for the project 'Submarine Cable Romania-Turkey (HVDC Link)', the value of the contract being 1.24 million euros.
This project was previously agreed upon by the authorities in Romania and Turkey and aims to make the electric power trade between the two countries easier, mainly for meeting the increasing needs of electricity consumption in Turkey as well as turning to account Romania's potential of export bound production, a potential that is significantly on the increase thanks to the new greenfield projects in Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania).
