Teodor Melescanu: Solving Transnistria conflict, a priority for us

Teodor Melescanu, Romania’s foreign minister declared on Tuesday at a meeting of foreign ministers from OSCE participating states that solving the conflict in Transnistria remained a priority for the Romanian state, according to a press release of the Foreign Ministry.

Present at the informal meeting of foreign ministers from states participating in OSCE, held in the Austrian town of Mauerbach, Teodor Melescanu reasserted Romania’s support for 5+2 negotiations, “as single framework guaranteeing transparency and legitimacy of a durable solution based on full respect of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to principles agreed at international level, OSCE included.”

Melescanu added that “the agenda of security threats should start from reasserting the importance of observing fundamental principles and engagements assumed, elements which lay at the basis of European security architecture.”

Teodor Melescanu pleaded for “strengthening the role of OSCE as base of European security, solving existing conflicts, preventing violent extremism and radicalization leading to terrorism.”

Moreover, the Romanian foreign minister had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Great Britain, Moldova and Georgia.
