THE AVERAGE MONTHLY LABOUR COST IN 2016 WAS 3493 LEI/EMPLOYEE

  • The average monthly gross earnings by total economy in 2016 (2809 lei) was by 9.9% (+254 lei) more than the one registered in 2015. The average monthly net earnings by total economy (2046 lei) increased by 10.1% (+187 lei) as against the previous year.

  • Monthly, employers spent an average of 3493 lei/employee.

  • The average number of employees in 2016 was 4759.4 thousand persons, increasing with 148.0 thousand persons compared to the previous year.

  • The number of employees at December 31st 2016 was 5223.8 thousand persons, higher with 182.6 thousand persons compared to the end of the previous year

Employers spent a monthly average of 3,493 lei per employee in 2016, up 9.5 per cent compared to 2015, and the national average monthly gross salary was 2,809 lei, by 9.9 per cent higher, according to a press release issued by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Tuesday.

The national net average monthly salary (2,046 lei) recorded an increase by 10.1 per cent (+187 lei), compared to the previous year. 

"The highest net average monthly salaries, above the national average, were recorded in 2016 in IT and communications (2.1 times), financial intermediation and insurance (almost 2 times), extractive industry, 66.7 per cent, production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning, by 57,6 per cent, public administration - 50.7 per cent, and in professional, scientific and technical activities - 47.2 per cent," informs the INS. 

According to the quoted source, the net average monthly salaries that were way below the national average were recorded in hotels and restaurants (-39.8 per cent), other service activities (-32.0 per cent), construction (-25.5 per cent), entertainment, cultural and recreational activities (-22.3 per cent), administrative service activities and support service ones (-21.2 per cent), agriculture, forestry and fishing (-20.8 per cent). 

  The INS says that men have net average monthly salaries higher than women have in most economic activities, with the largest differences (over 20 per cent) in financial intermediation and insurance (46.6 per cent), trade (23.7 per cent) , manufacturing (23.3 per cent) and other service activities (21.5 per cent). 

"In terms of territorial aspect, by county, the net average monthly salary in 2016 was below the national average in 36 counties. The lowest salaries were registered in the counties of Harghita (1,519 lei, by 25.8 per cent less than the national average), Covasna (1,542 lei, down 24.6 per cent), Vrancea (1,556 lei, 23.9 per cent less) .The highest net average monthly salary was recorded in Bucharest (2,925 lei), by 43 per cent above the national average," the INS informs. 

The net average monthly workforce-related cost in 2016 was 3,493 lei per employee, up 9.5 per cent from the previous year. 

In 2016, the average number of employees stood at 4,759 million, up 148,000 compared to the previous year.
