The festival of Thai fruit, in September

H.E. Sarayoot Kalayanamit, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Romania, had a meeting with Sorin Dimitriu, the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bucharest (CCIB) had a meeting which aimed at identifying some concrete ways for the development of economic and commercial bilateral relations.

In this context, Sorin Dimitriu informed the guests with regard to the organization by the Bucharest Chamber in collaboration with the Romanian company BIS-NIS SRL and Thai Exporters and Manufactures Association (TEMA) of the Romanian-Thai Business Forum  on 17 September followed by the Festival of Thai fruit.

The Thai delegation includes representatives of 15 companies which work in agriculture, food industry, cosmetics and textiles. According to the CCIB chair, on this occasion there will also take place the collaboration agreement between the Bucharest Chamber and TEMA.

In the context where the level of commercial exchange between Romania and Thailand does not reflect the potential of the two economies, besides the already mentioned events, the organization of a ‘ Day of business opportunities’ dedicated to Thailand, the development of collaboration at chamber level, including the signing of collaboration agreements, as well as the resumption of the Romanian-Thai Business council can mean concrete and efficient steps towards the development of economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

H.E.Sarayoot Kalayanamit expressed the whole openness  for the projects presented by the CCIB chair and mentioned the fact that there are opportunities for cooperation not only in the commercial domain but also in education and investment.

In 2018, the value of bilateral commercial exchanges registered a ‘ peak’ of 298 million USD, due to the high level of Thai export, of 234 mil.USD while the Romanian export, although at a record level registered only 64 mil.USD. In the first 5 months of 2019 there is a tendency for growth of bilateral commercial exchanges, as compared to the similar period of 2018 (+24.5%) due to imports from Thailand, which had an increase of 33.1% getting to 151.7 mil. USD while the Romanian export got down by 2.5% reaching 28.4 mil.USD.
