The ministry of defence: We plan to acquire at least 20 aircraft F16
The minister of national defence (MApN) has in plan to acquire at least 20 aircraft F16 announced on Monday the minister Gabriel Les.
‘The acquisition of at least 20 aircraft are included in our plan, with the intention to revitalise these aircraft. We don’t have the solution yet, we don’t know where they come from (…). They are F16, the same type.’ Said the minister of defence at the end of the group meeting of the PSD senators.
He said that he does not know if they are going to sign contracts for these aircraft during this year.
‘I couldn’t say if these 20 aircraft will be signed for this year. The F16 aircraft, by principle, from the US, to complete the 12 aircraft F16 we have until the end of the year (…) My intention is, now, to acquire what is necessary for the Romanian Army, but on the other hand, according to the governing programme, what I really want to do, especially as we have this political commitment of two percent ( of the GDP for the army) to integrate as much as possible in the industry in Romania, be it private or state-run’ Les said.
