There is concern among Romanian community in Israel; two Romanian citizens - still hostages
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Friday, in Sibiu, that during his visit to Israel he noticed a "concern" among the Romanian community in this country, stating that among the hostages left after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 there are also two people who have Romanian-Israeli citizenship.
He gave assurances that the authorities would continue to monitor the situation in the Middle East.
"There is a concern among the Romanian community in Israel. Furthermore, of the remaining hostages, two have Romanian and Israeli citizenship, four were in the process of obtaining Romanian citizenship as well. I met with the prime minister, I met with the president of the state of Israel, with the president of the Parliament, the Knesset. There was no institution that I entered together with my colleagues without meeting at least one person who did not tell me that his parents were born in Romania (...) they are from Neamt, from Iasi. It is a very close connection between Romania and Israel. We will continue to monitor the situation in the Middle East, a situation with a new security crisis, after the war in Ukraine. Indeed, it is known that there was a close connection between the Government of Romania and the Government of the State of Israel", Ciolacu told a press conference.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu was on a working visit to the State of Israel on Thursday, during which he had meetings with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, with the Minister for Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, as well as with the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog.
