"Timisoara - European Capital of Culture 2021", on the genda of the Council of Ministers of Culture of the EU, May 23
"Timisoara - European Capital of Culture 2021" will be the topic of a discussion at the Council of Ministers of Culture of the EU member states, a meeting that will take place on 23 May, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) said Thursday in a press statement.
"Cultural diversity is a key feature of the European Union, with the community dialogue space being a guarantee of mutual understanding and a binder in strengthening cooperation among member states. Located at the junction of cultures and offering an example of multiculturalism, Timisoara city meets all the criteria for holding the title of European Capital of Culture, from a priceless historical heritage point of view, as well as through a cultural agenda fully integrated with the European paradigm. Furthermore, celebrating the city on the Bega River as a European Capital of Culture will be part of the series of national cultural events that will start on the centennial of the Greater Union and the European Year of Cultural Heritage in 2018, and also the events organized on the side-lines of Romania taking over the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU in 2019," Minister-delegate for European Affairs Ana Birchall os quoted as saying in the statement.
In the context of participating in the weekly meeting of the Coordination Committee of National European Affairs Management System, which took place on Thursday, the minister-delegate underscored the role of this system as a vector in the dialogue with partner member states and European institutions.
In this framework, the latest developments in the European Parliament and the European Commission were analyzed.
Also discussed and approved at the meeting were the mandates that allow Romania's representation at the ministerial meetings of the Council of the EU.
Furthermore, it was agreed to boost preparatory steps for taking over the presidency of the Council of the EU in the first semester of 2019 through concrete internal actions at all the institutions that are involved in this process.
The Coordination Committee of the National European Affairs Management System carries out its activity under the coordination of the relevant minister-delegate and under the guidance of the prime minister; its main objective is ensuring Romania's efficient participation in the decision-making process inside the EU institutions.
