Unemployment rate, down to 3.31pct in December
The number of registered unemployed with the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) was 288,896 in December 2018, down 680 people from the previous month, while the unemployment rate decreased to 3.31pct.
According to a press statement released by ANOFM sent on Tuesday, nationwide unemployment end-December fell by 0.01 percentage points from November 2018, and by 0.71 percentage points from December 2017.
Centralised data show that of the total number of the registered unemployed, 62,004 were drawing unemployment benefits and 226,892 were not.
As compared to the previous month, male unemployment went up from 3.32 percent to 3.35 percent in October, while female unemployment fell to 3.27 percent (3.33 percent in November 2018).
A breakdown by residence of the number of the unemployed at the end of December shows 84,607 unemployed were in urban areas and 204,289 unemployed people in the countryside. Most of the unemployed persons were between 40 and 49 years of age (80,733), followed by those aged 55 and over (53,723), with people aged between 25 and 29 making up the lowest share (17,255).
A breakdown by educational attainment shows people without formal education and those with a formal primary education make up a significant share in the total unemployed registered with ANOFM, 30.50 percent. Secondary education graduates made up 24.55 percent of the total number of registered unemployed, while university graduates held 4.81 percent of the same number.
