Agriculture: Agriculture Ministry will complete market study for wine sector in Romania by December 8
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) will complete by December 8, 2016, a market study about the demand and offer for grapes and wine in Romania, which will include information about distribution and consumption, prices or quality standards, MADR announced on Friday.
The wine sector is one of the most developed sectors in agriculture, with the highest European fund absorption rate - 98% from the National Support Program of Romania in the wine sector, for 2007-2014, with important investments in vineyard plantations and in state of the art technology.
The study will include wine areas in Romania, demand and offer for grapes and wine in Romania, wine distribution and consumption in Romania, consumption in age groups, consumption prices for grapes and wine, quality standards for the sale of grapes and wine, sugar content, financial support granted to the sector, etc.
The study will be made between November 15 - December 8, 2016.
The value of funds allocated from EU budget for the promotion of farming produce grew from over 50 million euros in 2015 to about 111 million euros in 2016 and will grow to 200 million euros until 2020, which will lead to the increase of the number and value of information and promotion programs for agricultural products in Romania.
The promotion of wines has known a growing trend in Romania since 2009 to the present day, when 27 multi-annual financial support programs from EU and the state budget, worth 23.77 million euros have been carried out.
According to an analysis made by KeysFin in early November, business in the wine production sector in Romania may exceed 723 million lei, exceeding the 2015 value, when it was 680 million lei, ranking 13th in the top of world wine producers.
At the same time, Romania’s wine production has grown by 37% this year, to 4.8 million hl, and the number of producing companies has reached 217 of officially certified companies. Most producers are found in Vrancea (69), Bucharest (24), Prahova (18), Constanta (11) and Buzau (10).
The most important companies in the field, according the to business figure recorded in 2015 were: Cramele Recas SA, Zarea, Vinexport and Trade-Mark SA.

At present, Romania is in top 5 at European level in point of area covered by vineyards, with over 200,000 ha, and 6th in EU in point of production.
At world level, Romania ranks 13th, the top being headed by Italy with a wine production volume of 48.8 million hl in 2016, on the drop by 2% from 50 million hl in 2015 , followed by France with 41.9 million hl (-12%) and Spain with 37.8 million hl (+1%).
