Cars: Around 200 eco-friendly automobiles, sold in Romania in January
The number of new "green" cars (hybrid and respectively, hundred-percent electric) sold in Romania reached 193 units in January 2018, up 70.8 percent as compared to the same month last year, the Automobiles Producers and Importers Association (APIA) statistics show.
According to official data, of these, 79 are hundred-percent electric automobiles (up 6.5 times as compared to January 2017), and 114 units are hybrid (+12.9 percent).
In the first month of the year, the share of eco-friendly automobiles in the national overall sales stood at 2.7 percent.
In January, as many as 193 electric and hybrid automobiles were sold, down 56.9 percent, as compared to 448 units in December 2017.
Topping the ranking of the most traded hundred-percent electric vehicle brands, in January is Volkswagen, with 40 units, followed by Smart (12), BMW and Mercedes-Benz (each 9 units), Volvo (5), Audi and Kia (each one unit).
Furthermore, most hybrid cars sold in Romania in the first month of 2018 were Toyota (101 units), followed by Lexus (5), Kia (4), Audi (3) and Ford (1).
The APIA statistics show that in 2017 the share of new hybrid and electric cars sold in Romania reached 2.2 percent, their number reaching 2,811 units, up 136.7 percent as compared to previous year. Within the reported increase margin, 514 are hundred-percent electric cars (207.8 percent rise as against 2016), and 2,297 hybrid units (+126.1 percent).
