MT prepares large-scale infrastructure project including subway, train connection to Otopeni Airport
The Ministry of Transport (MT) will launch in the next period a large-scale urban regeneration infrastructure project that will include Subway Mainline 6 that will connect the Henri Coanda International Airport in Otopeni with Bucharest's North Railway Station, as well as the completion of the railway that will provide a direct connection to Romania's most important airport, Mariana Ionita, director general with the Transport Ministry told the conference "Mechanisms for a Developing Market" organized by the Civil Engineering Contractors Federation (FPSC).
"We have an extraordinarily extended railway network which used to provide good transport conditions sometime ago. Now the ministry intends to revitalize the railway, move freight transport to rail. To this end we will launch a large-scale project that will involve urban regeneration, with railway development at its core. In addition to rail, other subway development projects will also be launched — Mainline 6 is also nearing implementation. It's the line connecting the Otopeni Airport with the North Railway Station, then there is the railway to Otopeni Airport that undergoes capital repair, which will include an extension to the airport. The measures we plan, many of which with an administrative character, will definitely yield fruit in the next period," said Ionita.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Transport, the investment implementation process needs to be simplified at national level, with an Infrastructure Group due to come into being under the direct authority of the Chancellery of Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos.
The Civil Engineering Contractors Federation organized on Tuesday the conference on "Mechanisms for a Developing Market", having the following central themes: occurring changes and developments in demand for construction works, the involvement of contractors, the segment of construction investments, projects and financing, other practical aspects related to development programs, the share of investments in constructions and their impact on the industry, ways to streamline public resources under the new procurement law.
