Telecom. IT : ANCOM report: Romanians spoke for 36 billion minutes on cell phones in semester I, 2016
Romanians spoke for about 36 billion minutes on their cell phones in the first semester of 2016, on the rise by 4% against the same period of 2015, although the number of active mobile phone users in Romania remained the same as in 2015 - 22.6 million users, according to the latest statistics published by the National Authority for Administration and Rule in Communications (ANCOM), released on Tuesday.
On the average, a Romanian user speaks for 4 hours and 21 minutes per month on his mobile phone, 8 minutes more than the semester I, 2015 average. The most used voice services are those of people with subscription, who record an average monthly traffic of 5 hours and 49 minutes, followed by companies with subscription (4 hours and 12 minutes), while prepaid card users speak for 3 hours and 26 minutes.
The average duration of a mobile phone call grew, in the first 6 months of 2016, to two minutes and 40 seconds.
On the other hand, the number of short text messages drops for the first time in Romania in the same period of time, to 9.5 billions, about 6% fewer than in 2015. About 80% of text messages were sent in the same network. In the first half of the year, a used sent 60 messages/month, on the average.
“The number of active mobile phone users in Romania was on June 30, 2016 at the same level as in the same period of 2015 - 22.6 million users. However, the number of subscription users continued to grow by 9%/year, to 11.1 millions, while the number of active prepaid cards dropped to 11.5 millions. The mobile phone service penetration rate per 100 inhabitants reached 114.3% by mid 2016,” ANCOM points out in a press release, according to Agerpres.
Nevertheless, although the number of users stagnated, the overall traffic grew by 4% to about 36 billion minutes, in the first semester, 2016 compared to 2015.
According to the Report of statistic data about the electronic communication market in Romania for semester I, 2016, the traffic increase recorded to other mobile phone networks in the last years continues (+47% to 9.9 billion minutes), as well as traffic to fix networks (+5%, to 1.2 billion minutes), while traffic to the same network drops by 9% in the same reference period.
In this context, the share of traffic in the same network drops by 9% per year, to 63%, while the share of traffic to other mobile phone networks grows by 8% to 28%.
ANCOM points out that in the case of mobile phone services in roaming, voice traffic registered a significant increase of 37.5% in the first 6 months of the year, reaching 685 million minutes, of which 222 millions were outgoing calls and 463 millions were incoming calls. At the same time, the traffic of text messages in roaming grew by 9% to 66 million messages, while data in roaming reached 387,000 GB in the first half of the year.
The statistic data report on the electronic communication market in Romania in the first semester of 2016 was made by ANCOM based on reports made by active service suppliers over January1 - June 30, 2016.
