The Spa market in Romania, estimated at over 23 million euro

The spa market in Romania increased last year with approximately 10% at 23.1 million euro,according to the estimates of Travelle-Wellness Escapes. In 2016 the turnover of the spa market in Romania was of approximatey 21 million euro,out ofwhich 12.4 million euro from  access to spa, swimming pools areas,sauna and other facilities.

The rest of 8.4 million euro represents  the equivalent of the 241.316 treatments spa made by 175,560 clients.

The consultancy company about Spa.ro and the tourism agency Travelle  created the first agency specialised on wellness of Romania –Travelle –Wellness Escapes.

The spa relaxation market of  Romania is still at a low level but there are some tens of spa centres, especially in hotels and some centres Day Spa’ the representatives of the project say in a press release.

In 2016 there was an increase with an average of 9% of the turnover, against 2015.These figures  belong to the relaxation services, but there were not included in the statistics other types of services which could be offered besides the spa centres: weight loss treatments, fitness, as well as therapies made in the mineral waters  treatment spas.

Wellness tourism internationally increased starting with 2012. In 2013 the value of the wellness tourism market was 439 billion dollars, in 2015 increased at 583 billion dollars and estimates that in 2020 will get to 808 billion dollars.’The reality is that Romania is not on the map of international wellness tourism, so the major challenge for Travelle – wellness escapes will be to place our country on the map. At international level, approximately 41% of the wellness tourism is represented by the relaxation spa tourism’ Ioana Marian, founder of Spa.ro and managing partner of Travelle – Wellness Escapes.

The focus of the company on medium travel will be on incoming but in parallel on  short term is interested to increase the interest of the Romanians for wellness holidays.
