The gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni through which the Republic of Moldova will import resources from Romania will be finalised by 15 August, so that Romania exports through this pipeline almost 1-2% of the national production, in the first stage, stated on Tuesday the minister for energy Razvan Nicolescu, in a conference on the issue of energy strategy of Romania.

The first phase of the project will allow an exchange of gas between Romania to the Republic of Moldova of approximately 14,000 – 15,000 cubic metres per hour, which means 1-2% of the total production of Romania’ the minister says.

According to the procedures, Transgaz and the new company from the Republic of Moldova, Vestmodlotransgaz respectively, will sign an agreement of cooperation and then, according to the methodology will bid the capacity of the pipeline in a procedure called open season. We have to see who will reserve the capacity and what economic actors will sign the commercial contracts, which can be from Romania to the Republic of Moldova and to Romania from the Republic of Moldova. It is the first interconnector which functions in both cases starting with the first step’ Nicolescu said.
