Mangalia Horse Farm re-opens to public

The Horse Farm based in the Black Sea port town of Mangalia (southeastern Romania) opened to the public at the weekend with the event being organised by Constanta County Council and Mangalia Town Hall.

Constanta County Council assigned around one million euros to upgrade the horse farm, after the county administration had asked the Government to make the farm responsible to it instead of Romsilva forest public company, with a draft law having been initiated to this effect.

The horse farm will become a tourist site and will also be included in the national horse-race circuit, with specialised betting offices to be drawn into the project.

Mangalia Horse Farm hosts some 350 thoroughbred Arabian horses and covers over 500 hectares.

Mangalia Racetrack, the only one in Romania devised for galloping races extends over 19 hectares.

Mangalia Horse Farm was set up in 1928 with the purpose of keeping the breed characteristics of the Arabian horse. The Arabian Thoroughbred is the oldest in the world and has contributed to achieving and improving most of the existing horse breeds. The Arabian Thoroughbred is an agile, docile horse, with special traits for galloping races and endurance.
