Summit of Integrity for Prosperity:two thirds of the companies consider that they have an ethical code (survey)
Two thirds of the companies in the Romanian business environment consider that they have an Ethical Code and approximately half say that they have procedures for the insurance of transparency in the decision-making process, shows a research presented on Friday at the Summit for Integrity for Prosperity, organised by Transparency International Romania.
The survey where 300 companies in the Romanian business environment was made to identify values which form the basis of the business sector in our country, as well as the behaviour acknowledged by the Romanian companies.The error margin is plus/minus6%.
According to the survey, only 39%of the interviewees indicate the fact that at the level of their company there are procedures for integrity, and over 70% offered good marks to the quality of mechanisms of conformity checking, practices for the implementation of ethical values in their companies. On the other hand, only 60.3% evaluated positively the system of reporting irregularities.
This research was made in the project ‘ The growth of the role of the judicial system to prevent corruption in the business environment’ implemented by Transparency International Romania which was one of the issues under debate at the Summit for Integrity for Prosperity. The participants discussed about a business climate based on integrity and implementation of the integrity pacts as anti-corruption solution in acquisition.
Iulia Cospanaru deputy manager of Transparency International Romania explained that the opinion survey wants to identify if in the Romanian society, at the level of the business environment there is a trend to assume values which should support the consolidation of integrity, and ‘ the answer is more than good, as such programmes start to appear with several economic operators’.
Marian Popa, the chairman of Transparency International Romania mentioned that the debate about integrity takes place on the International Day for Anti-corruption being the ‘ 12th caravan’. ‘ We want to convince Romania that integrity is worthwhile and integrity isa thing that brings us prosperity and it is not only a concept but it has effective advantages. Two years ago we started this caravan which will last for six years at least, we proposed to go through all counties and discuss with various people from the academic world, industrial, business, citizens, students, and discuss about values and morals’ Popa said, mentioning that it is about a programme where debates are organised in different parts of the country on issues of integrity and until now there were over 3,000 people who were interested.
