WizzAir: January-July 2023, 99.12% of flights from Romania were successfully operated

WizzAir is actively making efforts to reduce unpredictable delays and cancellations, which could disrupt passengers' travel plans, officials of the airline reported on Tuesday, saying that between January and July 2023, 99.12% of flights from Romania were successfully operated.

"WizzAir is actively collaborating with the Romanian authorities. WizzAir is dedicated to maintaining the highest level of customer satisfaction. As a result of unforeseen disruptions caused by factors that are often beyond the airline's control, such as air traffic controllers' strikes, air traffic and airport staff, weather conditions and challenges in the supply chain, Wizz Air has had to cancel some of its flights, but never up to nine flights a day, as claimed by the media. The airline has taken substantial steps to counter these issues, including increasing aircraft availability, adding additional reserve aircraft and adjusting crew schedules to allow for more time between flights to increase operational flexibility," WizzAir officials
said in a reply to a request for a point of view.

They also said that WizzAir has increased the number of Romanian-speaking agents in its call centres, introduced digital solutions and increased the number of accommodation providers to make it easier for passengers to choose hotels during a disruption. "These efforts resulted in the successful operation of 99.12% of flights from Romania between January and July 2023, as against 98.73% during the same period in 2022. The airline is actively working to reduce unpredictable delays and cancellations, which could disrupt passengers' travel plans," according to the WizzAir point of view.

Late last month, on the sidelines of an informal meeting of the EU ministers responsible for competitiveness, Romanian Economy Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea discussed with European Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders, also responsible for consumer protection, delays or cancellations of flights by the WizzAir airline.

He voiced concern over the problems facing Wizz Air in Romania, as lately many of its flights were long delayed or cancelled at the last moment, leading to complaints from customers.

The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport Bogdan Mindrescu announced that he urgently asked the management of Wizz Air for a plan of concrete measures to reduce the number of flights canceled for technical reasons and to ensure the consistency of air flights, also solving the problem of flight personnel working over the allowed time limit.

The Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEAT) announces, on last Thursday, that Romanians who encounter various problems with Wizz Air flights can submit complaints on the website of the European Consumer Center Romania. The company cannot be sanctioned by the Romanian authorities, as it does not have representation in our country.
