230-250 citizens, with dual Romanian & Israeli citizenship in Gaza Strip, appeal to Foreign Affairs Ministry

Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu declared on Sunday evening that around 230 - 250 Romanians with dual citizenship, Romanian and Israeli, from the Gaza Strip requested the help of the Romanian state, the link with them being permanently maintained, and he expressed his belief that a solution for them will be found.

"Until this moment, no one, no citizen, not necessarily with dual Romanian-Israeli citizenship, no American citizens, no one, has left the Gaza Strip. We have not yet reached a mediation and a compromise, a formula, where and how will this be done. (...) I repeat, there are groups at the moment at the crisis cell and they are communicating with almost every one of them, among those who appealed (to the Romanian authorities - ed.n)," Marcel Ciolacu declared for private broadcaster television Prima News.

He added that, "at this moment, there are no reasons to worry about their lives" and pointed out that it is a conflict zone, with a very high dynamic and the best decisions must be made.

Asked about the Romanian citizens who could not go to the south of the Gaza Strip, the prime minister specified: "Yes, the large majority gathered in the south".

He also referred to the fact that Romania was involved in the extraction of approximately three thousand Ukrainian citizens from Israel, pointing out that everything was done following a request from the European forums, which also bore all the expenses. He also showed that the majority of Ukrainian citizens extracted from Israel transited Romania, only 48 of them requesting to stay on the territory of our country.

Asked if he could confirm the meeting on Tuesday, in Israel with premier Netanyahu about which there were talks during Sunday, Marcel Ciolacu said “No”.

He did not confirm that he would go to Israel next week, as it was presented on the sources, stating that he will have at least one foreign trip, referring to Ukraine.

Certainly, next week we will have at least a foreign trip. We have a GtoG with the government in Kiev, agreed for a long time, since Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal came to Romania and, depending on this program, we will see if other trips are necessary’ said Marcel Ciolacu.
