Ambassador Brummel: 2016 has been very productive for Romania's bilateral relations with the United Kingdom

So far, 2016 has been very productive for Romania's bilateral relations with the United Kingdom, British Ambassador Paul Brummell declared Thursday, on the celebration of Queen Elizabeth's official birthday. The diplomat recalled British Prime Minister David Cameron's December 2015 visit to Romania, the first such event in a bilateral context in the past 16 years.

Brummell appreciated the close collaboration with Romania in many fields; he mentioned the participation of Romania's Vice Prime Minister Costin Borc and Justice Minister Raluca Pruna in an international summit on corruption in London, in May. The fight against corruption is very important both in the UK and in Romania, he added. He wished the Bucharest authorities success in this ongoing effort, and promised London's availability for experience exchanges and support.

The British embassy celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday in a reception at the BNR Arenas in Bucharest on Thursday night. The event also marked 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare; costumed actors enacted fragments of 'Romeo and Juliet', in a spontaneous performance amidst the audience.
