Bilateral trade between Romania and the Republic of Turkmenistan stood at 108 million dollars at the end of 2015
The establishment of the Romanian-Turkmen business council will give the business environment of Romania and Turkmenistan an impetus to identify new opportunities, said Deputy PM and Economy Minister Costin Borc at the works of the 6th session of the joint intergovernmental committee.
According to an Economy Ministry release sent on Wednesday, minister in charge Costin Borc and the Finance Minister of the Republic of Turkmenistan Muhammetguly Muhamedov chaired the works of the intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation held in Bucharest over June 14-15.
Increasing and diversifying bilateral trade remains a concern with the Romanian and Turkmen authorities and giving the business environment in both countries a boost for identifying new opportunities, meant to enhance the flow of goods, becomes a priority.
Deputy PM Costin Borc also underscored the need to continue to develop the project of the Black Sea - Caspian Sea transport corridor, co-initiated by Romania and Turkmenistan, and voiced his confidence in the consistent role which the development of this corridor could have in the projects in the Black Sea extended region Romania participates in.
At the end of the works of the economic collaboration intergovernmental committee, the two dignitaries signed the protocol of the 6th session of the joint committee providing for the main collaboration directions in the areas of trade, SMEs, industry, tourism, agriculture, transports, energy, chamber system, scientific research, culture, education, sports.
Bilateral trade between Romania and the Republic of Turkmenistan stood at 108 million dollars at the end of December 2015, of which 16-million-dollar exports and 92-million-dollar imports. Import from Turkmenistan is exclusively represented by fuels, namely diesel oil, natural gas and butane gas.
