Bombardier and CAF submit bids for 16 metro trains for Metrorex

Bombardier Transportation from Germany, the branch of the Canadian company with the same name alongside Construction y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) from Spain have submitted bids at the tender organized by the underground operator Metrorex to renew the existent metro trains, Metrorex said in a release to Agerpres.

Bombardier offered 117 million euros for the 16 trains while CAF an amount of 97 million euros.

According to Metrorex, one of the two companies will be announced as the winner at mid-July.

At this moment, the underground train network includes 264 new trains, produced by Bombardier and also trains manufactured in Arad (north-west of Bucharest) that have overreached their lifespan usage and have pretty high maintenance costs.
