Chargé d'affaires a.i. of Russian Federation's Embassy in Bucharest, summoned again to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bucharest was summoned again to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the level of secretary of state for Strategic Affairs, following the identification in Tulcea County of new fragments of drones similar to those used by the Russian army in Ukraine.

"Secretary of state for Strategic Affairs Iulian Fota conveyed his firm protest against the re-violation of Romania's airspace and called on the Russian side to immediately cease attacks against the Ukrainian population and civilian infrastructure, including those at the border with Romania. He also requested compliance with the norms of international law, including the inviolability of Romania's airspace," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs in a press release sent on Wednesday evening.

According to the source, the secretary of state strongly condemned these attacks, which also generate security risks for Romanian citizens and affect the safety of transport on the Danube and through the Black Sea.

"These attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are illegal and considered war crimes," the Foreign Ministry said.

Last Saturday too, the chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bucharest was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has informed and is consulting with NATO allies on developments at the border between Romania and Ukraine, including Wednesday's incident involving new drone fragments.

"Against the background of the identification on September 13 of new drone fragments similar to those used by the Russian army, scattered over an area of several dozen meters in Tulcea county, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its firm protest against the violation, once again, of Romania's airspace. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly requests an end to the repeated attacks against the Ukrainian population and civilian infrastructure and to the irresponsible escalation by the Russian Federation of the security situation, including at the border between Romania and Ukraine, and, at the same time, demands respect for the international law norms, including the inviolability of Romania's airspace," the MAE press release underlines.

The Foreign Ministry reiterates its firm condemnation of these illegal attacks, which violate the international law norms and are considered war crimes.

The Ministry of Defence (MApN) informed that the joint fact-finding and verification team, that visited the area located about 1.5 km east of Nufaru, Tulcea County, collected evidence from the site for analysis and technical expertise.

"From the first data transmitted, it appeared that the fragments in question are from a drone similar to those used by the Russian army. The evaluation process is underway to determine the circumstances of this incident," said MapN.

The Ministry of National Defense reiterates the fact that the Russian Federation's attacks on the port infrastructure of Ukraine on the Danube, carried out near the border with Romania, are unjustified and in serious contradiction with the rules of international law, underlines the quoted source
