Contribution of agriculture to GDP went up 123 pct between 2007 and 2016
The contribution of agriculture to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) went up 123 pct 2007 through 2016, Secretary of State in the the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) Alexandru Potor maintains.
"I believe we can discuss extensively about the successful model of the Romanian agriculture. The most important thing for us, at the Agriculture Ministry, is to capitalise on the potential the Romanian agriculture has. We are referring to the great crop potential and zootechnics, these both very wide directions needing the support of investments. Record productions of wheat, barley, rapeseed, sunflower and pea were obtained this year. Very good productions of corn, soy, potatoes and grapes are also expected. These supplementary quantities will contribute to the increase of Romania's Gross Domestic Product. The advance recorded by the Romanian agriculture in the 2007-2016 interval was 123 pct as regards its contribution to the GDP. All these are overall due to some balanced policies. I can tell you that in the SAPARD PNDR [National Rural Development Programme -ed.n] 2007 - 2013 and PNDR 2014 - 2020 interval, approximately 11.1 billion euro were absorbed on the investment side. These capital injections have undoubtedly contributed to these achievements," Potor stated on Tuesday in a specialized Forum.
Representatives of the government and professional organisations in agriculture are participating on Tuesday in the AgriBusiness Forum: "The Contribution of Agriculture to the Future Romanian Economic Model", an event organised by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), by the Economic and Social Studies and Forecasts Association (ASPES) and Durable Romania.
The debates revolve around the Romanian economic model for the next ten years, in which agriculture and the adjoining sectors and industries can contribute to the general development of the national economy.
