CSM: Valer Dorneanu’s statements about Dragnea’s files affected independence of justice
Judge Bogdan Marinescu, a member in the Supreme Court of Magistrates (CSM), said on Tuesday, in the CSM plenum, that the statements made by the president of CCR about Dragnea’s file, according to which “decisions are adopted through a political lens” are revolting and affect the independence of justice.
“This statement made by the CCR president is absolutely revolting. I consider there are enough data and there should be a prompt reaction from CSM and an appeal to public, political factors or from CCR, observing the independence of justice, because this is not a judge’s privilege, it is the citizen’s right and a fundamental guarantee,” said judge Bogdan Mateescu.
During deliberations, CSM members decided that the CCR president’s statements had infringed the independence of justice.
The CCR president said the file in which Liviu Dragnea and his former wife, Bombonica Prodana, were involved had been set up by DNA because of the position of people involved.
“It was considered a corruption file. There was an abuse about hiring a person which never worked there. Is that corruption? It is a job abuse. It is handled by DNA because of the quality of the people involved in the file, not as a result of the fact that it could be admitted as corruption. The Venice Commission, the in the EU area, spoke about the serious punitive intervention of the state against acts of corruption and that corruption was regardless of value or level,”said CCR president Valer Dorneanu, in a TV interview.
