Dragos Pislaru is the new minister of labor
President Klaus Iohannis has signed on Monday the decree of appointment of Dragos Pislaru as Labour minister. President Iohannis said that the new Labour Minister, Dragos Pislaru, takes over the office in a complicated context and wished him good luck and inspiration: "You take over the office in a complicated context and I wish you good luck and inspiration," Iohannis told the new minister, whom he congratulated and wished good luck with his tenure.
"I cannot overlook an entire complex of issues expecting you, namely the public pay system. It is a complicated situation: for many years now, those in the government, in Parliament have been trying to find solutions to this problem, without having found one that satisfied everyone yet," Iohannis told the new labour minister.
He said there is a great expectation for an increase in public pay and eliminating imbalances in the system.
"I wish you, Mr Minister, that together with all the involved parties, with the colleagues in the government, with the trade unions, with all those who can contribute to this discussion, you consider this matter and find a good, widely accepted solution, which should really improve the situation in the area," the head of state added.
Pislaru was the economic advisor of Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos.
Ciolos had nominated Pislaru earlier in the morning.
Former Labour Minister Ana Costea has resigned last Thursday. The President also signed the decree for her discharge.
Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said Monday that Dragos Pislaru will continue and complete talks on drawing up a piece of legislation that will restore public pay balance, to which end he will hold a meeting with the trade unions."His main missions, objectives will be continuing and completing the talks on the drawing up, if possible, a piece of legislation to rectify some public pay imbalances. I have asked him to meet trade unions as soon as possible to resume talks and find out the bases of such a piece of legislation. The Government does not want to impose a piece of legislation, but it wants an agreement to be reached with the trade unions within the limits of the state budget and see what we can do accordingly. Then, in the days to come he will come up with his schedule, which will be a continuation of what has already been started, but I have asked him, like I have asked other ministers as well, that from now on we enter a new level of the government programme and so we should be concentrating on delivering, on already prepared projects," Ciolos said Monday in Tulcea, where he attended a debate on a Danube Delta strategy.
He said Pislaru is an economist by trade and when he was a state adviser in his Cabinet he also got involved in employment and remuneration matters.
Ciolos added that he would have liked to designate a woman to replace resigning Labour Minister Claudia Ana Costea, saying that it was very hard pressed because the office tenure will be short.
"Honestly, I would have liked a lady to continue leading the Labour Ministry. It is hard to find and mobilise someone for a short period of time, for a short office tenure to also take over ideas and projects on the fly. Mr Pislaru knows the projects worked out at the Labour Ministry and particularly this public pay bill, our talks on the minimum wage, the jobs creation and professional training that leads to better employment. Mr Pisalru already has ideas and knows well the government programme and I believe he will be operational very soon," said Ciolos.
