Romanian city world's third in Internet speed, next only to Singapore and Hong Kong
The city of Ploiesti (north of Bucharest) ranks world's third in terms of Internet speed, behind Singapore and Hong Kong, Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA) deputy general manager Irina Lucan-Arjoca asserted on Monday in a conference on digital copyright. She added that Romania is among top countries when it comes to both download and upload speed.According to her, Internet speed in Ploiesti is 102.35 Mbps, followed (in Romania) by Iasi with 101.43 Mbps and Bucharest with 96.18 Mbs.
Nevertheless, the ORDA official pointed out, 39 percent of Romanians never use the Internet, as revealed by a World Bank study; the percentage is probably higher in rural areas, Lucan-Arjoca estimated.
"Big companies like Intel, Motorola, Microsoft and Oracle, who hire Romanian experts, have a remarkable presence in Romania," she said.
