Dumitru (Fiscal Council): Many taxes were useless, but radio-TV and environment taxes had significant impact

The law eliminating over 100 taxes will have a double budget impact compared to the one presented by initiators. While many of those taxes were not justified economically, the radio-TV and environment taxes should have been serious, said Ionut Dumitru, the president of the Fiscal Council on Tuesday.

“As presented by the Finance Ministry, the impact of the law is bigger than presented by initiators - 1.6 billion lei. It is important to see where we can find this money, as there will be high pressure on budget deficit”, Dumitru explained.

According to him, the environment tax, which finances programs like Rabla or Green House, will create problems in case it is eliminated.

“It is a significant impact and we do not have a solution for the remaining problem”, Dumitru said.

In his opinion, the budget impact of the elimination of those taxes will have to be covered from elsewhere and the source should have been indicated by the initiator of the law.
