Energy minister: Romgaz will present offer for purchase of Exxon Black Sea package
Romgaz will present on Wednesday an offer for the purchase of the package held by Exxon in the Black Sea, said the minister of energy, Virgil Popescu in a News.ro video conference – Energy Road, 4th edition, with the theme “Energy at home”. He also declared that the amendment of the Offshore Law will be approved until the end of this parliamentary session, pointing out that he wanted a political consensus in Parliament “broader than coalition consensus.” The offshore law will be amended this year.
“We hope to find political consensus in Parliament, it will be a parliamentary initiative of the coalition and I am sure that until the end of this parliamentary session it will be approved. I wish for a broader political consensus than that of the coalition. This is an objective I announced and I want to accomplish and I am sure we will have Parliament colleagues and others outside the ruling coalition who will vote the amendment of the offshore law. Tomorrow is the deadline for presenting the offer for the purchase of the 50% package held by Exxon in the Black Sea. Romgaz, the company owned by the ministry with majority shares will present an offer for its purchase. At the same time we worked on the offshore law. Romania is a natural gas producer, one of the big gas producers and reserve owners in Europe. Our energy mix and transition depend on natural gas. We want the transition from coal to renewable energy to be made with natural gas. Therefore we need natural gas, we want to get natural gas from the Black Sea, we want to find new onshore and offshore reserves,” the minister said.
