LESS JOB VACANCIES IN 2020

In 2020, the average annual number of job vacancies was 37.7 thousand, decreasing by 16.1 thousand as against the previous year.

 

The average annual job vacancy rate1 was 0.77%, decreasing by 0.32 percentage points as against the previous year.

 

In 2020, the highest values of the average annual job vacancy rates were registered in public administration and other service activities (1.96% each), in human health and social work activities (1.52%), respectively in arts, entertainment and recreation (1.32%). In manufacturing was concentrated almost o fifth of the average annual number of job vacancies (7.4 thousand job vacancies), having an average annual rate of 0.67%.

 

The budgetary sector2 summed up over 30% of the average annual number of job vacancies, the highest values were found in public administration (5.4 thousand job vacancies), followed by human health and social work activities (5.3 thousand job vacancies) respectively education (1.2 thousand job vacancies). At the opposite side, the lowest value for the average annual job vacancy rate was found in accommodation and food service activities (0.06%) and the average annual number of job vacancies known the lowest value in real estate activities (0.1 thousand job vacancies).

 

Year 2020 compared to year 2019

 

As against the previous year, with the exception of the mining and quarrying (+0.02 percentage points, respectively +0.01 thousand job vacancies), in all national economic activities decreases were registered, for both indicators. Thus, the most significant decreases of the average annual job vacancy rates were found in accommodation and food service activities (-0.59 percentage points), other service activities (-0.51 percentage points), arts, entertainment and recreation (-0.50 percentage points), manufacturing (-0.47 percentage points), respectively financial and insurance activities (-0.46 percentage points). As concerning the average annual number of job vacancies, the most relevant decreases were noticed in manufacturing (-5.9 thousand job vacancies), followed by wholesale and retail trade (-1.8 thousand job vacancies), accommodation and food service activities (-1.3 thousand job vacancies), human health and social work activities, respectively transportation and storage (-1.1 thousand job vacancies each).

 

In 2020, the highest demand for paid labour force expressed by employers through the average annual job vacancy rate was noticed amongst occupations related to clerical support workers - major group 4 (1.03%), professionals - major group 2 (0.87%), elementary occupations - major group 9 (0.81%), respectively technicians and associate professionals - major group 3 (0.80%). As concerning the average annual number of job vacancies, the highest values were for occupations related to professionals - major group 2 (9.4 thousand job vacancies), followed by service and sales workers - major group 5 (5.9 thousand job vacancies), respectively elementary occupations - major group 9 (5.2 thousand job vacancies). At the opposite side, the lowest demand for paid labour force for both the average annual rate and the average annual number of job vacancies was for skilled agricultural, forestry and fishery workers - major group 6 (0.39%, respectively 0.1 thousand job vacancies), respectively for managers - major group 1 (0.45%, respectively 1.5 thousand job vacancies).

 

Year 2020 compared to year 2019 As against 2019, for all major groups of occupations decreases were registered, for both the average annual rate and the average annual number of job vacancies. The most relevant decreases of the average annual job vacancy rate were found amongst occupations related to professionals - major group 2 and plant and machine operators and assemblers - major group 8 (-0.35 percentage points each), service and sales workers - major group 5 (-0.34 percentage points), respectively elementary occupations - major group 9 (-0.33 percentage points). The average annual number of job vacancies knew the most significant decreases in the occupations related to professionals - major group 2 (-3.8 thousand job vacancies), service and sales workers - major group 5 (-2.8 thousand job vacancies), elementary occupations - major group 9 (-2.3 thousand job vacancies), respectively plant and machine operators and assemblers - major group 8 (-2.0 thousand job vacancies).

 

 

In territorial profile, in 2020, the highest values of the average annual job vacancy rate were registered in Bucharest-Ilfov region (1.05%), North-West region (0.91%), respectively West region (0.87%). Employers presented the most significant demand for paid labour force expressed through the average annual number of job vacancies in Bucharest-Ilfov region (11.7 thousand job vacancies), which represented about 31% from the average annual number of job vacancies at country level. The North-West regions (6.1 thousand job vacancies), respectively West (4.1 thousand job vacancies) summed over 27% from the average annual number of job vacancies at country level. At the opposite side, for both the average annual job vacancy rate and the average annual number of job vacancies, the lowest values were in South-West Oltenia region (0.31%, respectively 1.2 thousand job vacancies), followed by NorthEast region (0.59%, respectively 3.3 thousand job vacancies).

As against the previous year, in all development regions decreases were registered for both the average annual job vacancy rate and the average annual number of job vacancies. Thus, the most relevant decreases of the average annual job vacancy rate were registered in West region (-0.50 percentage points), Bucharest-Ilfov region (-0.38 percentage points), North-East region (-0.34 percentage points), respectively North-West region (-0.31 percentage points).

 

The average annual number of job vacancies diminished the most in Bucharest-Ilfov region (-4.2 thousand job vacancies), West region (-2.6 thousand job vacancies), North-West region (-2.2 thousand job vacancies), respectively Center region (-2.0 thousand job vacancies). In South-West Oltenia, region the average annual number of job vacancies decreased the least, with only 0.5 thousand as against the previous year (-0.13 percentage points the average annual job vacancy rate).
