Enescu 2022 International Competition: Over 100 young musicians from 32 countries to compete
Over 100 young musicians from 32 countries will join the 18th edition of the George Enescu International Competition, for the four sections devoted to violin, cello, piano and composition.
According to an Artexim press release, sent on Thursday, 26 musicians applied for the cello section, 21 for violin, 39 for piano and 22 for orchestra and chamber compositions, where an originality prize will be also awarded.
Most competitors are from Romania -16, followed by China -15, South Korea – 14. The youngest competitor in the 2022 competition is a 13 year old cello player. The average age of the competitors in 25.
For the first time the jury will act online, through the analysis of the video recording sent by competitors to specialized juries, made of renowned world musicians.
The online stage will beheld in May and results will be announced until May 31, on the competition website.
Prizes with a total value of 120,000 euros will be awarded, besides international promotion and artistic launch of the most talented competitors.
At the same time, Askonas Holt, one of the most important art management companies in the world, joins the Enescu competition for the first time, in its mission to support young classical music talents, offering counseling and career guiding sessions to winners of the piano, violin and cello sections for a year.
Recordings of competitors qualified for the online stage can be seen on www.festivalenescu.ro as follows: the cello section will be available as of May 9, the violin section as of May 11, and the piano section as of May 13, 12.00 noon.
This year's edition will open at the Romanian Atheneum on September 4 with the Gala Concert performed by George Enescu Philharmonic, under the baton of Peter Ruzicka, in first world audition: An Axe for the Frozen Sea by Karlo Margetic, a work prized at the composition section (Symphonic Music category) the preceding edition of Enescu Competition.
A cultural project financed by Romania's government through the Ministry of Culture, George Enescu International Competiton, one of the most important international launching platforms for young musicians worldwide, is built as a natural extension of George Enescu Festival, the most prestigious cultural event organized in Romania.
