European Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager starts a visit to Romania

Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu on Thursday at Victoria Palace had a meeting with European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager, underscoring the Romanian Government's availability to strengthen dialogue with the European Commission, including on topics concerning the competition environment, reads a release.

"Even recently we had the opportunity to strengthen this dialogue at the meetings held in Bucharest with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and EC Vice-President Frans Timmermans. We believe this dialogue to be important, particularly in the perspective of Romania taking over in 2019 the Presidency of the Council of the EU," Grindeanu said, according to the release. 

The PM hailed the EC's initiative to modernise the state aid granting manner, as well as the directive draft referring to strengthening the role, independence and capacity of national authorities in charge with overseeing competition of acting and implementing the European norms in terms of competition. 

In her turn, European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager appreciated the efforts of the Romanian authorities on the line of improving the competition environment in Romania and voiced the EC's openness to collaborate with the Government in this direction, the release points out. 

Also on Thursday at Victoria Palace, Margrethe Vestager had a separate meeting with Economy Minister Mihai Tudose, Energy Minister Toma Petcu and officials of the Communications and Transports Ministries. Competition Council chair Bodgan Chiritoiu was also present at the meetings, the release reads.
