Former chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber, Bogdan Olteanu, took advantage of his position to get huge sums of money
The judges from the High Court of Cassation and Justice consider that former chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber Bogdan Olteanu took advantage of the influence he had as the third man in the state to get huge sums of money, one million euro respectively in exchange of the nomination of Liviu Mihaiu as the governor of the Danube Delta.
The magistrates show the facts Bogdan Olteanu is accused of represent a danger for the public order even if they were discovered by the judicial body in January 2016, almost 8 years since the doing,generating even now in the society ‘ strong negative reactions which persist with the same intensity’.
According to the court,the personal circumstances of Bogdan Olteanu ( he has a high level of education, no criminal case,he is integrated into society) cannot justify his investigation in liberty under judicial investigation as the former chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber required.
On 29 July, the High Court of Cassation and Justice rejected the DNA request for preventive arrest of Bogdan Olteanu, this being placed under house arrest for a period of 30 days, in the file where he is accused of traffic of influence.
Bogdan Olteanu is accused that in July-November 2008 as the chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber required and received from Sorin Ovidiu Vantu the sum of one million euro and electoral support in exchange for the nomination of Liviu Mihaiu as governor of the Danube Delta.
