President Klaus Iohannis attends on Thursday the 'Saber Guardian - 16' multinational military exercise that is unfolding at the Getica Land Forces Combat Training Centre in Cincu, the Brasov County, the Presidential Administration announced. 

According to the National Defence Ministry (MApN), over 900 troops with the Romanian Land Forces take part the exercise, alongside 1,700 US military with M1A2 Abrams tanks and Bradley armored fighting vehicles, and 47 Canadian troops with infantry fighting vehicles. 

The activities on Thursday will open with a crossing over Olt River drill at the Voila locality of Brasov County. 

'Saber Guardian-16' is a multinational exercise based on a fictitious scenario aiming to train the military for the planning, execution and assessment of the military actions in a joint environment, developing their inter-operability level with the NATO member states' forces, as well as for the promotion of the regional cooperation with the Black Sea region's countries, fulfilling the Alliance's standardization demands

Chief of Romania's Army Staff Nicolae Ciuca on Wednesday welcomed Commander of the Multinational Joint Headquarters Ulm - Germany, Richard Rossmanith to discuss the latest security developments in the region.

The Romanian Defence Ministry says in a press statement that also discussed were the implementation of decisions of the recent NATO Summit in Warsaw as well as the participation of Romanian troops in exercises conducted by the Multinational Joint Headquarters in Ulm.

The two officials also talked about the development of interoperability among the defence organisations of the NATO member and partner states as part of the Saber Guardian 16 defence exercise.
