Foreign Affairs Minister Lazar Comanescu on Friday said that for Romania it is essential that NATO and European Union demarches converge naturally."For Romania, it is essential that the NATO and the European Union demarches converge naturally, responding also to the practical needs in our region," Comanescu said at "Romania's Security Leadership in South Eastern Europe," an event organised at the Cotroceni Palace, according to a release.
Minister Lazar Comanescu referred in his intervention to the regional security environment, showing that it remains deeply affected by the events of the past two years, mainly in the Black Sea region.
He evoked the special significance of the July 8 — 9 NATO Summit in Warsaw in reconfirming the allied solidarity and unity and guaranteeing the credibility of the NATO commitments, including the long-term strategic adaptation, from a political, military and institutional viewpoint.
According to the release, the most important aspects pursued by Romania at the Summit include: the consolidation of NATO's presence on the entire eastern flank, keeping the Alliance's attention on the Black Sea region, the continuation of the Alliance's partnership and open door policy, as an efficient instrument for expanding the stability and security area, NATO's missile defence system.
Lazar Comanescu reminded the European demarche Romania also contributed to, of drawing up a new Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy, which will be available at the end of this month.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of the energy security dimension in the Black Sea region, showing that Romania promotes energy cooperation in the region, mostly for the development of projects ensuring the diversification of the supply sources.
