ForMin launches e-VIZA electronic portal for foreigners seeking Romanian entry visa

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday launched the e-VIZA electronic portal aimed at the foreign citizens seeking to get a Romanian entry visa.

Foreign Ministry\\\'s Secretary General Sorin Moise, who attended the event said the project was co-funded by the European Social Fund via the Operational Programme on the Development of the Administrative Capacity 2007-2013 and it cost 16,690,750. 84 lei, pre-VAT, with 85 percent of the amount coming from the European Social Fund and 15 percent from the state budget.

Moise stressed the portal will enable the foreign visa-applicants to initiate the procedure for getting a visa wherever from they are by using the Internet.

\\\'This will mean significant shorter time for visa processing and the time that a foreign citizen will spend by undergoing this procedure... The project answers the Romanian state\\\'s wish to be integrated into a modern system /.../ and enables the Romanian state to obtain obvious economic advantages on the medium- and long-term, given the interest that we hope the foreign citizens will show in accessing this type of project. We particularly think of the fact we will attract more foreign tourists, foreign investors, foreign students by means of this modern instrument for getting Romanian entry visas\\\', the ministry official said.

He added the foreign ministry is, at the same time conducting a project targeting the Romanian citizens by which they will be able to access a general call center faster, thus cutting the waiting times.

Moise explained the e-VIZA project had been conducted over seven months, i.e. over Oct. 2013 - April 2014 and has been completed as per the deadline set in the contract.

Cristian Iovanut, representing the consortium of firms having worked on the project announced the portal will be available from April 17. He explained the website has two main areas: one of information and one of processing the visa applications.

According to the ministry, the main goal of e-VIZA portal is to provide equal and fair access to all applicants, boost the visa-issue efficiency and the applicants\\\' comfort. The ministry, however, underscored the e-VIZA system does not actually manage the visa applications for Romania, since this is the responsibility of the current visa-granting system, the SNIV, and it merely plays the role of an electronic interface between the SNIV and the visa applicants.
