ForMin Odobescu discusses Romania's Schengen accession with EU ambassadors
Foreign minister Luminita Odobescu stressed on Friday Romania's "determination" to continue working to find a solution for Romania's accession to the Schengen Area, while highlighting our country's contribution to strengthening the European Union's security and promoting effective mechanisms for managing illegal migration.
She had a meeting with the ambassadors of the European Union Member States accredited to Bucharest, an event organised by the Spanish Embassy in Romania, the country holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).
The head of the Romanian diplomacy and the ambassadors discussed the main issues on the European agenda, such as support for Ukraine, the process of preparation of the new Strategic Agenda, the advancement of EU enlargement, developments on migration and the review of the European budget.
Odobescu reiterated, in the context of Russia's illegal and unjustified aggression against Ukraine, Romania's concrete and multidimensional commitment to back the neighbouring country, stressing the importance of continued substantial support from the European Union.
The minister also stressed the need for consistent European support for the Republic of Moldova in order to strengthen its resilience. Luminita Odobescu argued for the adoption of the decision to open EU accession negotiations for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova by the end of this year.
The minister of Foreign Affairs also pointed out that Romania supports the Western Balkan states in their efforts to advance the EU accession process.
