Number of building permits for residential buildings down 23.9% in first eight months
The number of building permits for residential buildings issued in Romania dropped, in the first eight months, by 23.9% against the similar period of last year, show the data published on Friday by the National Institute for Statistics (INS).
According to INS, drops were registered in all development regions: Bucuresti-Ilfov (-1,539 permits), North- West (-1,181), South-Muntenia (-1,132), West (-932), NORTH – EAST (-792), South- East (-722), South- West Oltenia (-604) and Center (-407).
In August 2023 there were 3,115 building permits for residential buildings up by 1.9% against July 2023, with a total usable surface of 73,0973 sqm(-16.1%). Out of the total of building permits for residential permits 68.1% are for the rural area.
According to the quoted source, in August 2023 there is a growth of the number of building permits issued for residential buildings as compared to the previous month (+59 permits). At territorial level, this increase is reflected in the following development regions: South- East(+62 permits), South-Muntenia (+45), Bucuresti-Ilfov (+36) and NORTH – EAST (+27).
Decreases were registered in development regions: North- West (-42 permits), Center (-36), South- West Oltenia (-28) and West (-5).
In August 2023, 541 building permits for residential buildings were issued (-1.3% against July 2023) in total usable surface of 226,982 sqm (-48, 8%).
Compared to the previous month in August 2023 a decrease of the usable surface in building permits issued for non-residential buildings (-216,575 sqm). At territorial level, this decrease is reflected in the following development regions: North- West (-154.299 sqm), West (-32.542), Bucuresti-Ilfov (-29.803), NORTH – EAST (-7449), South-Muntenia (-6.078) and South- West Oltenia (-1.727).
Increases were registered in the development regions South- East (+12.214 sqm) and Center (+3.109).
Also, in August 2023 there is a decrease in both the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (-23.0%) and the total floor area (-31.7%) compared to August 2022. In territorial profile, this decrease in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (-928 permits) is reflected in all development regions: North- West (-198 permits), NORTH – EAST (-150), South-Muntenia (-113), South- West Oltenia (-107), South- East (-99), West and Center (-91 each) and Bucuresti-Ilfov (-79).
Compared to August 2022, August 2023 saw a decrease in the number of building permits issued for non-residential buildings (-14.8%) and an increase in total usable area (+4.9%).
In territorial profile, this increase in usable area for building permits issued for non-residential buildings (+10,625 sqm) is reflected in the following development regions: Center (+22,875 sqm), NORTH – EAST (+19,757), West (+14,496), South-Muntenia (+1,690) and Bucuresti-Ilfov (+565). Decreases were recorded in the development regions: NORTH-West (-37,676 sqm), South- East (-9,484) and South- West Oltenia (-1,598).
