The president of Moldova was offended by the statements made by Moldova’s ambassador to Bucharest who said the decree withdrawing Basescu’s citizenship could be declared unconstitutional and he would request his revocation and replacement with someone who understands the country’s interests.
The president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, was surprised by the statements made by the ambassador to Bucharest who believes the decree withdrawing Traian Basescu’s citizenship could influence the relations between Romania and his country and that according to specialists in the field the document could be declared unconstitutional, Unimedia informs.
The agency speaks about the poor professional qualification of the ambassador, either about his political engagements to the detriment of his own state and of its leaders. Igor Dodon said he would ask the government to revoke the ambassador to Bucharest, Mihai Gribincea and to replace him with “someone who understands both diplomatic competences and the interests of the state of Moldova.”
Traian Basescu declared that the decision of Moldova’s president Igor Dodon to sign a decree by which the citizenship of Moldova was withdrawn from him was a political decision which will later dishonour him.
“I do make comments from the point of view that we have different outlooks and that Dodon wants Moldova to surrender to Moscow’s hegemony. I would like Moldova to go on a the European path and why not be united to Romania. Dodon;s decision is strictly political which in time will dishonour him. I am a unionist and I can do nothing against Dodon,”said former president of Romania, for Deschide.md.
Igor Dodon signed on January 3rd the decree withdrawing Traian Basescu’s citizenship. The document does not refer to the former president’s wife, Maria Basescu.
Previously, Basescu had declared he would sue Igor Dodon if he signed a decree withdrawing his citizenship.
