Ioannis Markos: the volume of Greek investments in Romania is 4 billion euro
The volume of Greek investment in Romania is 1.8 billion euro according to the official data, but in reality it is 4 billion euro, stated on Wednesday Ioannis Markos the head of the economic office in the Greek Embassy to Bucharest at a conference organised by Business Review.
According to him, the official figures show the fact that the volume of Greek investments in Romania is 1.8 billion euro, according to ONRC but in reality it is 4 bilion euro. According to the data presented by Ioannis Markos there are 6.988 Greek companies registered in Romania, active being approximately 1,500 with 25,000 employees.
The Greek companies are present in all sectors of Romania, not only in the banking or food one,where companies such as Coca-Cola, HBC, Chipita, Best Foods, Alexandrion Group, Valvis Holding activate. In the banking sector, he mentioned Alpha Bank, Banca Romaneasca,Piraeus Bank and Marfin Bank. In this context, Ioannis Markos stated that the main issue the companies face is the lack of work force: managers and workers.
Greece is 18th as regards the export partners of Romania and 20th for import.According to him,Romania is the main market for fruit export of Greece with 185,000 tons. In its turn, Greece is the main destination for Romanian tourists with 1.3 million tourists in 2017.
