Iohannis about Exxon intention to sell Black Sea participation, possibly to Gazprom: The matter preoccupies us
During a press meeting at the Cotroceni Palace, President Klaus Iohannis declared on Thursday, referring to information about Exxon intention to sell Black Sea participation, possibly to Gazprom, that it is a matter that preoccupies authorities, that the information is not real and any transaction is made in the conditions of the law.
The president was also asked about TurkStream gas pipe, inaugurated on Wednesday by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin which will carry natural gas from Russia to Turkey and Europe.
“The inauguration of TurkStream is not a problem for Romania. Romania's supply is not a problem,” the president said.
The American group informed in writing at least three actors involved in the Black Sea project of its intention to leave: Romania's Government, the National Authority for Mineral Resources (ANRM) and OMV Petrom, the company which is a partner in the project.
Exxon Mobil and OMV Petrom are exploring the great depth Neptune block in the Black Sea, where preliminary results indicate reserves of 42-84 billion cubic meters of gas, but companies postponed the decision to go on with the extraction stage.
