Iohannis asks Romanians from abroad not to come home for Easter holidays

President Klaus Iohannis made an appeal on Friday to the Romanians from abroad not to come home this year for the Easter holidays.

Iohannis added this necessary appeal saddens him.
"My dear ones, do not come home for Easter this year".

"This time, the Resurrection of our Lord finds the entire humanity in a deep crisis. This year, we will be next to our beloved, from afar," the president stressed.

He asserted that the visit of the Romanians from abroad could be "extremely dangerous" for their loved ones.

"It is very important for you to understand, hard as it might be, that returning home to your families can be extremely dangerous both for yourselves and for the persons you care so much about," the president added.

These sacrifices, he said, must be made for a safe future. "This year we will be next to our beloved ones from afar, because it is the only way we can show our affection towards the ones we love without endangering their life and health. We will make these painful sacrifices today so that we can be together again later. For the millions of believers, it is a real drama not to be able to go to church for the holy feasts, but have faith, this difficult period will pass and we will gather again in our churches with even more faith," the president said.

Iohannis once again recalled the recommendations delivered worldwide in the COVID-19 pandemic context. "Yet now, there is no way to protect yourselves and the ones close to you but stay at home, respect as much as possible the social distancing rules. This is the most powerful and fullest manifestation of Christian love and the love of one's neighbour," the president concluded.
