Israeli Ambassador to Bucharest: the purpose of terrorist attacks targeting the country is to destroy the State of Israel
Israeli Ambassador to Bucharest Tamar Samash considers that the purpose of terrorist attacks targeting her country is to destroy the State of Israel.
The ambassador stated in a press briefing on Thursday that during the past two weeks there have been 17 attacks, which claimed the lives of eight Israeli and wounded more than 17, of whom 15 were hospitalized.
The situation in Israel is not alright, because those attacking us are doing it through every means: they stab us, they hit us with their cars and they throw stones and Molotov cocktails. One may say: it's just stones, but stones can kill. We know that anybody can become the target of an attack, I saw a few days ago that even a child who was in his mother's arms got attacked, the ambassador stated.
She stressed that Israel is trying to defend the existing democracy.
We are a democracy and we are trying to protect ourselves. The reality is distorted and the press around the world is doing this - transforming the attackers, the terrorists into victims. Israel is waiting for the international community to condemn the recent terrorist attacks targeting Israeli citizens and to see that self-defense reaction is not a premeditated act. We are open to dialogue with Palestinian leaders and would like to see peace reinstated as soon as possible, the ambassador insisted.
She added that currently Israeli authorities are trying to appease the situation through preventing attacks and increasing the number of security forces on the streets.
First of all, we increase security on the streets through deploying more police officers and troops, who perform more checks. Then, the houses of the terrorists must be destroyed and reconsruction forbidden. Also, their citizenship visa will be lifted, so that they won't have access to social security or healthcare, Samash explained.
When asked about a European reaction to the recent terrorist attacks, the ambassador commented that the reaction was weak, because Europe is currently involved in tackling other issues, such as the refugee crisis and the Russian crisis in Syria. I believe that Israel is not at among Europe's problems and I believe it is for the best, she said. There is no need for someone to come over and save us. We are defending ourselves and hope that all will end as soon as possible, so that there won't be any need for support from other states, the Israeli ambassador concluded.
