Over 81.500 children have at least one parent abroad for work

Over 81.500 children are affected by their parents’ having left for work abroad, over a quarter of them have no parent left and over 4,000 minors got to the system of special protection, say the data centralised by the National Authority for the Child protection and Adoption (ANPDCA). According to these data, at mid-year 61,374 families in Romania with 81,581 children had at least one parent abroad for work.

Out of these, 15,675 families have both parents away and the total number of children left at home who come from these families reached 21,319.

Out of these, 20,166 are left at home with relatives up to IV level, without protection measures, and 1,064 are under a form of special protection: 163 maternal assistance,, 255 placement centres, 554 with relatives, 92 with other families or people, 89with neighbours or other families/people without any protection measures.

In 37,465 families with 50,020 children a parent is away abroad for work. Out of the over 50,000 children, 1,699 are in the system of special protection, 232 with maternal assistance, 398 in placement centres, 962 with relatives, 107 with other families or other people and 862 in other situations, without any measures for special protection.

In the registers of general departments for social assistance and child protection there are also 8,234 families with single parent away for work abroad, with a total of 10,242 children. Out of these, 8,915 are supervised by relatives, without any protection measures, and 1,250 are in the special protection system, 276 with maternal assistance, 287 placement centres, 599 with relatives, 88 with other families or people, 77in other situations, without any special protection measures.

As a total, 4013 children are affected by the migration of the parents and they are included in the system of special protection, over half of them (2,115) being under supervision by relatives and 940 in placement centres, 671 in maternal assistance and 287 in other families or with other people.
