President Iohannis met the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz in Brussels
Romania's President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday said migration should be treated in its entirety where it emerges.
"As far as migration is concerned, we agreed that the matter has to be treated in its entirety, not piecemeal, that we have to follow this approach at its source, we have to treat the problem where it emerges and cooperate with the countries wherefrom the refugees come," Iohannis said in Brussels after a meeting with President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.
He added that as far as the transit countries such as Turkey are concerned, there should be cooperation with them for better control over the movement of refugees.
Iohannis showed that this is his first working visit to the European Parliament as Romania's President and also the first meeting with the president of the EP.
"We have appreciated the very positive personal part of the president himself in very many matters and complicated files for the EU," he said.
President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz said Thursday after meeting Romanians President Klaus Iohannis in Brussels that he finally discussed one hour in German with a head of state.
"I had the special privilege of finally discussing one hour in German with a head of state,' said Schulz.
He mentioned that his conversation with Iohannis regarded the agenda of the European Council summit, refugees, EU reforms and proposals to be put forth by the UK.
"We also discussed the situation of refugees in Turkey and how we have to find a solution for the situation there. We hope for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Syria. We cannot let things as they are, and as far as the neighbour countries - Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey - are concerned, they all need us," added Schulz.
President Iohannis is attending Thursday and Friday the autumn meeting of the European Council that discusses migration.
