Israeli Embassy: We are devastated that more than 600 Israeli citizens have died

The Embassy of Israel in Romania says that more than 600 Israeli citizens died as a result of recent Hamas attacks.

"We are devastated to announce that the death toll among Israeli citizens is over 600 at this time. Israel is making every effort to treat the injured and prevent further loss of life. The Hamas terrorists responsible for this atrocity will pay the price. May the memory of the victims be a blessing!" reads a social media post written by the embassy on Sunday.

Israel and the Gaza Strip are at war after a surprise military attack launched on Saturday morning by Hamas, which launched thousands of rockets and captured Israelis as their militants infiltrated Jewish communities near the border with Gaza.

Following the moves made by the Crisis Cell, 346 Romanian and foreign citizens were repatriated from Israel, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, with two flights operated by TAROM company - 189 first flight, respectively 157 with the second flight -, measure taken in the context of the deterioration of the security situation in the State of Israel and the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) informs.

MAE says that a mobile consular team from the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Romanian Representation Office in Ramallah went to Ben Gurion Airport to provide consular assistance to Romanian citizens at the airport.

"At the same time, representatives of the MAE Crisis Cell have coordinated with the Israeli authorities and the Romanian Patriarchate to manage groups of Romanian citizens and pilgrims at Ben Gurion Airport, in order to ensure their accommodation, until repatriation solutions are identified. MAE uses this opportunity to thank the Israeli authorities for the support provided for the safe repatriation of Romanian citizens," reads a press release of the ministry sent on Sunday.
