Volodymyr Zelensky is reportedly visiting Romania this week
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, could visit Romania on October 10, according to official sources cited by Digi 24. It would be the first visit to Bucharest by the Ukrainian leader, since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, in 24 February 2022.
An official confirmation will most likely come on the day of the visit for security reasons.
On August 23, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denîs ?mîhal, visited Bucharest, who announced that President Volodymyr Zelenski would come to Romania, but without providing more details. “I think that President Zelenski will come to Romania. I can’t say the date, but I know he will do it,” Denis Smihal told Digi24.
The visit would also take place in the context of the constant support given by Romania to Ukraine, including in the grain crisis. On September 26, in the speech addressed to the nation, the president of Ukraine said that he expects “constructive cooperation” from other neighboring countries, in the issue of grains, as is happening with Romania and Bulgaria.
Romania has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine, as it fends off Russia’s aggression.
More than half of Ukrainian exports using the EU’s solidarity lanes— corridors set up to facilitate transit by road, rail and inland waterway — come through Romania.
In the early days of Putin’s invasion, Romania recorded an increase in the number of cyberattacks aimed at its infrastructure and Bucharest authorities found that a vast majority of the IP addresses where the attacks originated were based in Russia.
