Korea's Han Duck-Soo: Korean companies are interested in Romanian nuclear sector development
Korea is interested in participating in the development of the Romanian nuclear sector, visiting Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo said on Wednesday in Bucharest.
"I asked him [Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca] to consider the possibility of Korean companies participating in the rehabilitation of Romania's nuclear power plant and in the construction of new nuclear power plants," said Han after meeting his Romanian counterpart at the Romanian Government House.
He also asked for simplified procedures for visas and residence permits for Korean expats and also for support for organising the World Expo in Busan.
Discussions also covered the situation in the Korean peninsula and the war in Ukraine.
"We established the need for Romania and the international community to react in a united and decisive manner to the deterioration of the situation on the Korean peninsula as a result of North Korea's continuous provocations, including the launch of missiles. Regarding the war in Ukraine, the two sides voiced concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation as a result of the protracted war. We agreed that the solidarity and support of the international community is more important than ever, and we decided to work together for the rapid restoration of peace and reconstruction in Ukraine," said Han.
A memorandum of understanding between Romania's National Sea Port Administration Corporation and the Busan Port Authority was signed as part of the meeting.
In turn, Romanian Prime minister Nicolae Ciuca added that steps are being taken to establish a science and technology office.
"We decided to continue identifying opportunities and using the full potential in sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, digitalization and nuclear energy, as well as opening a science and technology office in Seoul, simultaneously with continuing efforts to open another point of reference in cultural relations between Romania and South Korea, namely a Romanian cultural institute in Seoul. (Foreign Affairs) minister Aurescu confirmed the progress of the procedures, as such we will have an institute open at our embassy in Seoul as soon as possible," said Ciuca.
Prime minister Nicolae Ciuca emphasized the relevance of bilateral economic relations, noting that "there are very good opportunities" for their development.
During the discussions, the subject of Romania's accession to the OECD was also addressed, and South Korea expressed its support for our country.
The two prime ministers also discussed the security situation in the Black Sea region and in the Indo-Pacific area.
A Romanian cultural institute will soon be opened in Seoul, prime minister Nicolae Ciuca added, after the meeting with his South Korean counterpart, Han Duck-soo.
