MEP Catalin Ivan: we are the country with the poorest populationa and the richest politicians
Romania is the country with the poorest population and the richest politicians, stated on Friday the Member of European Parliament Catalin Ivan (social-democrat).
‘I am too little interested in who gets to prison and how many years he spends there. I am interested in the fact that the stolen money is recovered and I have an initiative in the European Parliament for the recovery of money taken out of the country. We are talking about the social effects which are very serious. We are talking about the lack of money from schools, hospitals, investment, categories which become poorer and poorer’ stated the MEP Catalin Ivan, in a debate organised by RoAction ‘ Romania in clear view’ Shares to bearer – the source of public funds embezzlement’.
The member of European parliament added that the process of depopulation of Romania is by far the most serious of the E and even in the world ,after the countries in conflict.
„ Besides the countries where there is a civil war or they are in war against other states, from Romania there leave most citizens. Every hour there are nine Romanians who leave’ Catalin Ivan said.
Similarly, he added that our country has the worst paid workers in the EU as well as trade unions who cannot negociate collective work contracts, ‘ the corruption’ is the cause for these situations.
‘We have the worst paid workers in the whole of the EU. We have trade unions who were maimed of their capacity to negociate work collective contracts by a law given in the Romanian Parliament in 2010, but which has never been amended. If we are looking for one cause, we have only one label and this is endemic corruption’ the MEP said.
The debate organised by RoAction aimed at the citizen’s initiative for the amendment of the law of companies no.31/1990 so that the shares to bearers be eliminated. The draft law was published in the Official Gazette on 25 October and now there are necessary 100,000 signatures so that it becomes legislative proposal and get into the parliament.
According to RoAction.at present in Romania there are 384 companies with shares to bearer and most are connected to public money. The organisation considers that through shares to bearer the commercial companies can easily embezzle public money as they can go from person to person without limitations or confirmation, thus facilitating fiscal evasion.
The members of the organisations show that there are already states which have forbidden shares to bearer such as Belgium in 2008, the Czech Republic in 2013, Cyprus, Malta, the UK in 2015.
At the debate on Friday there were the MEP Ana Gomes, Irina Lonean from Transparency International, the founder of Funky Citizens Elena Calistru, the journalist Rise Project Ana Poenariu, Raluca Feher from Frontline Club Bucharest, the vicechairman of the Bloc National Sindical (BNS) Ciprian Bogdan and Victoria Stoiciu Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.
