Michele Ramis: Romania, France's essential partner in the region

Romania is an essential partner of France in the region, Ambassador Michele Ramis stressed on Friday at the reception organized on July 14 - the National Day of the French Republic. The diplomat held her speech both in French and in Romanian.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila also participates in the reception of the French National Day. "Madam Prime Minister, your presence confirms the exceptional character of the friendship relations between our countries and the common desire of their leaders to further strengthen them. This year, Romania will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Revolution of 1989 , which gave birth to the Romanian democracy," Michele Ramis said, pointing out that "Romania is for France an essential partner in this region of Europe."

The Ambassador of France in Bucharest congratulated the Romanian authorities in her speech on the success of the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

"We know the Romanian people's attachment to Europe and the European political project. Europe is our common good, our grand project to the challenges we face, be it from the outside or within the European Union," she said. "Despite a busy agenda and strong political constraints, significant progress has been made during the Romanian Presidency in many files, some of which are particularly important for France," the Ambassador pointed out.

She talked about the importance of the rule of law in the European Union. "Europe is also a community of values that underpin it and give it strength. Among these values, enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on the European Union, the rule of law is of paramount importance. We must preserve this democratic framework and respect the rights it entails," said Michele Ramis.

In her speech, the French diplomat brought to mind that this year, the bilateral relations were marked by the France-Romania Season, ending on Sunday. "This Season has been a real success, especially among young people, with over 800 events organized in 160 different cities in France and Romania and has allowed our citizens to rediscover themselves," the Ambassador said, recalling that the event will end with a series of free entry events in Carol Park in Bucharest.

Created under the motto "Forget about Clichés", the crossed Season brought to France Romanian artists and to Romania French artists from all over the world. Among the places where Romanian art was presented in France, during the Season, were the Louvre Museum and the Pompidou Center. At the same time, French artists have been invited to major Romanian festivals - the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) and the International Theater Festival in Sibiu (FITS).

Michele Ramis also spoke about the economic presence of France in Romania, with over 2,300 companies providing 120,000 jobs. "Of course, in order to continue to grow, these investments require legislative and regulatory predictability and a favorable environment. We appreciate the commitment of the Romanian authorities in this regard," she said.

The French diplomat ended her message with encouragement to the Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, qualified for the final of the Wimbledon tournament. "I cannot conclude without a word of encouragement for Simona Halep, whom I wish good luck at the Wimbledon tournament," said Michele Ramis in Romanian.
